About The Author
I'm a transplanted Texan, born in Amarillo and living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was in education for 23 years as a speech pathologist and middle school teacher. During those years I taught everything, except math, including drama and yearbook. While teaching drama I wrote several plays for my students to perform. I really liked planning and publishing the school yearbook because I was able to create and write text and see it all in print.

From the time I could pick up a pencil, I've loved writing, even when the scribbles had no meaning. I have always been an avid reader, beginning when I sat on my daddy's lap and he read the Sunday funnies to me. In grade school, middle school and high school, I wrote short stories and poems for my friends to read. I was on the school newspaper and won a feature story award.

When I retired from teaching, and never content to “do nothing”, I became a certified health care counselor, Doctor of Naturopathy and worked as a chiropractic assistant. While working there writing caught up with me once more and I wrote all the doctor’s reports. I have always kept a journal and have boxes of them in a closet.

My husband passed away in 1997 and during the next six years I started writing in earnest. I joined Tulsa Christian Writers and was awarded a second place in a poetry contest. It was during this time I started The Demise of Bobby Mac, first as a short story then lengthening it into a novel.

In 2003, an old grade school/junior high/high school friend contacted me and we began talking on the phone and emailing. Reid Leachman was a widower and by May of that year the two of us married in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Together we have six children and twelve grandchildren, one great granddaughter (several grand-dogs, a grand-cat and some grand-horses). My husband is a retired orthopedic surgeon. We both like to travel and have been to Hawaii, England, France, Italy and places in the U.S.

Today I belong to the Croak and Dagger chapter of Sisters in Crime, New Mexico Book Coop and to SouthWest Writers. I meet with three different critique groups and attend other writing conferences. I've taken on-line writing courses, and in 2006 I was named one of the Stand-Out short story writers at the Tony Hillerman Mystery Conference.

My book, The Demise of Bobby Mac was published in June of 2006. I have had book signings and have traveled to Palestine, Texas, to give a book talk at the library there. I"ve completed the first in a detective series named A Penny's Worth of Murder and have begun the next one, Plugged Nickel.

I am available for book signings and book club talks.  Contact me at
Leachman@comcast.net. Go to “Reviews” on the Table of Contents to find out what people have said about my first book.
